The last writers strike from 2007-2008 lasted 100 days. During those 100 days, networks filled the gaps left by content written by writers with reality tv; most notably The Apprentice.
Some observers have speculated that this strike could last at least as long or longer. And this time around, entertainment is already so saturated with reality TV that networks and streamers won’t be able to fall back as easily on simple ideas like Business Boy Need Help. (My glass half full hope for this labor dispute is that networks and streamers will start giving more air time to high-quality documentaries and women’s sports, but I’m betting we’ll probably end up getting more mid crap like golf and Tiger King.)
Lucky for them, I’ve got a bunch of incredibly complicated and mean-spirited ideas that I think would make pretty good reality TV, until studios decide they’re going to start treating writers like human beings. And once that happens, I’m totally cool with all of them getting canceled.
